There is a piece of legislation that will decimate the rights of Indigenous people of Brazil, who have been protecting the rainforest. It’s unfathomably bad. It has majority support. And they’re voting tomorrow. As reported here, the Bill allows “the Brazilian government to find energy resources, set up military bases, develop strategic roads, and implement commercial agriculture on protected Indigenous tribal lands, without any prior discussion with the affected peoples.”

the like. “barbies/cottagecore is for girls and legos/dark academia is for boys but idk why!” type statements are actually a perfect encapsulation of the way so many people will regurgitate straight up undiluted right wing misogyny and gender roles and not stop for even a second to examine where that thought process might come from because surely since they themselves are not right wing there’s absolutely no need to interrogate their own thinking at any point.
it’s the idea that merely believing themselves to be left wing/progressive is already enough and there’s no point to work on themselves and their beliefs any further than that, as if they didn’t still grow up in a culture that’s steeped in misogynistic values and spoonfeeds them to absolutely everybody from the moment they’re born, and as if it’s not a lifelong process for everyone to identify the way they’ve been shaped and influenced by that and actively counteract it.

you have to understand that there is an overlap between drag queens and trans women and between trans women and cis lesbians and between lesbians and drag kings and between drag kings and trans men and between trans men and cis gay men and between gay men and drag queens and between lesbians and bisexual women and between gay men and bisexual men and between lesbians and asexual women and between gay men and asexual men and between all sexualities and nonbinary people and between butches and transmascs and between binary trans people and genserqueer people.
basically what I’m saying is that we’re all family. there aren’t clear divides or walls that separate us. and that’s the point. being easily separated into perfect neat little boxes is exactly what queerphobic people want. don’t let your oppressers trick you into thinking your family is your enemy.
if you tried to map out our community, you wouldn’t get a bunch of neat circles that don’t touch or overlap or have any relationship with each other at all. you’d get this.

like I just. the amount of contrarianism you have to be huffing to fuck up your sense of media literacy this bad. there is a lot of childish humour and absurdity and silliness in the film because the thesis statement of the film is that silliness is profound and important. the message isn’t “be kind” it’s “find joy.” literally it’s so on the nose the character Evelyn is reaching for is Literally Called Joy.
like how do you watch a film where the triumph over nothingness is symbolised by sticking googly eyes on everything and think “oh, the reason this film is full of absurdities that seem immature is clearly an unconscious failure of the film to be mature or deep” rather than “oh the way this film is constructed is Specifically About This Explicit Theme that the whole film has been repeatedly reifying, that both stoic responsibility and chaotic nihilism are paths to self destruction and the real hard important work is allowing yourself to be earnestly naive, vulnerable and silly.”
